Editorial standards & methodology
CRS Calculator publishes immigration information that people use to make real decisions, so we hold ourselves to a clear standard for accuracy, sourcing and independence. This page explains how the calculator and guides are built and maintained.
Who writes this
Our calculator and guides are produced and maintained by the CRS Calculator Editorial Team — the people who build and review this site. We are an independent information resource. We are not a law firm, not a licensed immigration consultancy, and not affiliated with or endorsed by the Government of Canada or IRCC. Where your situation needs personalised advice, we say so and point you to a licensed representative or the official channels.
How we source the calculator
Every points table in the calculator — age, education, language ability, Canadian and foreign work experience, spouse factors, skill transferability and additional points — is taken directly from the official Comprehensive Ranking System criteria published by IRCC on canada.ca. We build the logic against that source rather than copying other calculators, several of which are out of date. We deliberately exclude factors that are no longer scored, which is why this tool does not award points for a job offer after IRCC removed them on 25 March 2025.
How often we review
We re-check the grid against the official source whenever IRCC signals a change and on a periodic schedule regardless. Each guide carries a visible "updated" date so you can see how current it is. Figures that the government revises on its own cycle — such as proof-of-funds thresholds and test-score equivalencies — are described structurally, and we direct you to confirm the live number on canada.ca rather than risk quoting a stale one.
Corrections
If you spot something that is wrong or out of date, we want to know. We treat corrections seriously and update the page and its "updated" date when we make a substantive change. You can reach us through the contact page.
Independence and funding
This site is free to use and supported by advertising. Advertising does not influence the calculator's logic or the substance of our guides — the scoring follows the official grid regardless of any commercial consideration. We do not sell your calculator inputs; as our privacy policy explains, the calculator runs in your browser and your answers are not sent to us.
What we are careful about
Immigration decisions carry real consequences, so we avoid false certainty. We frame estimates as estimates, flag where only IRCC's own result governs, and keep guidance general rather than presenting it as advice for your specific case. Our aim is to be the clearest, most honest free explanation of the CRS available — and to be upfront about the limits of what an independent tool can tell you.
This page describes our process. It is not a guarantee of outcome. Always confirm current rules and figures on the official Government of Canada pages before acting.
